National Forest Inventory for Vanuatu underway

29th April 2019, Forestry Department Conference Room, Tagabe, Port Vila. Today marks an exciting start for the Department of Forestry as the National Forestry Inventory kickoff with a refresher training for foresters and CSOs preparing them for fieldwork.

26 years after Vanuatu Forestry last had a National Inventory (1993), Department of Forestry through the FCPF REDD+ Programme has selected 12 islands that the NFI will cover. These include Vanua Lava, Gaua, Santo, Maewo, Pentecost, Malekula, Epi, Ambrym, Efate, Tanna, Erromango and Anneytum. These islands represent 90% of Vanuatu’s land cover and almost 92% of Vanuatu’s Forests Cover.
