PNG REDD+ Technical Working Meeting Progressive Update

The REDD+ Technical Working Committee (TWC) Meeting was conducted on Friday 10th May at the CCDA headquarters at Dynasty Tower Savannah Heights, Waigani Port Moresby. Discussions were based around the theme: Progressive update on REDD+ initiatives by CCDA and stakeholders. The objectives of the TWC was threefold; to provide progressive updates from CCDA, Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) and other stakeholders, understand the different projects under corporate and operational plan (GGGI, PCCC etc) and be informed on the REDD+ progressive status and understand the progress on a National Policy Approach. Progressive updates were on; 2019 Work Plan presented by GM REDD+ & Mitigation Ms. Gwen Sissiou, Climate Change (Management) Act 2015 Review – Ms Gwen Sissiou, Safeguards and Safeguards Information System by Ms. Sonia Baine, REDD+ Communications and Knowledge Management Strategy by Ms. Deborah Meana, Financial Investment Plan Progress Update (RFIP) by Mr. Phill Cowling, Biennial Update Report (BUR), and REDD+ Technical Annex by Acting General Manager MRV and National Communication Mr. Alfred Rungol and National Designated Authority (NDA) Green Climate Fund (GCF) Update by Ms. Nidatha Martin. The TWC meets on a quarterly basis. The REDD+ TWC is one of the four TWCs that CCDA coordinates – the other three are Low Carbon Growth (Mitigation), Adaptation and National Consultation (MRV and National Communication). The TWCs include representatives from key Government agencies, development partners, civil society and the private sector. This is a platform that CCDA utilises effectively on stakeholder engagement/awareness raising in responding to Climate Change challenges in-country.
